Blueberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, wonky trunk covered in ridged, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of huge, sickle shaped leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either white or green, with amber dots.

In early spring, it produces many tiny, blue blossoms with spiral petals. They fall easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like rotting meat.

In mid-autumn it produces , asymmetrical fruit. The hairy gold skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is bitter and sour, and the very soft red flesh is sweet and very dry. The lime seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
