Blackbeard Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The very thick stem is brown, and is covered in copious amounts of fine, black, hair-like spines. The wavy, lime trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the top. Its green branches are very long and thin and start growing halfway up the stem.

The small amounts of toothed-edged, long, tapering leaves are found in hazel, caramel and grey varieties. They are hardy, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is steady-growing, taking 5 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are generally blue; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grow at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight sphere. It has a mildly strong scent that smells like new carpet.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the magenta flesh is rubbery, and the grey sap is thin and can kill if consumed.
