Burgundy Succulent

This small caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The finger-like stem is ashy blue, and is dotted with small yellow spines. The angular, slate trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter in the middle. Its burgundy branches trail down to the ground and start growing at the top the stem.

The large amounts of smooth-edged, long, narrow leaves are solid brown or hazel, with beige zig-zags. They are frail, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is very fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with intense red petals and a red central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 2 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 40 petals. It has a strong scent that smells like fermented fruit.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the red flesh is sticky, and the magenta sap is thin.
