Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in very thick, silky, brown and grey bark, and inside, the light wood is silver.

The tangled mess of branches are short and slender and are covered with large amounts of huge, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are dark grey at the bottom and copper with violet edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of giant, red blossoms with circular petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In early autumn it produces , slender, 5 pointed fruit. The fuzzy gold skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is bitter and savoury, and the slightly crunchy slate flesh is salty and syrupy. The hazel seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
