Blackfire

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 186 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous sturdy, straight stems covered in thin, knobbly, brown and grey bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, circular, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid black with vivid orange patches, resilient and crispy.

In late spring it produces many bunches of small, red flowers with umbrella-shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like rotten eggs.


It can survive a long time without water.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
