Indigo Trumpet

This short flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its red stem is thick, and the small, silver or florescent red leaves are slender, pointed with serrated edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single large flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 13 cm (5.1 inches) wide, with solid beige petals and an indigo central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet with 53 widely spaced, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a powerful scent that smells like marzipan, and it has lots of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to a specific species.
