Burgundy Succulent

This short caudiciform grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is burgundy, and is covered in brittle bronze spines. The bulbous, white trunk can grow to as much as 7 feet (2.1 meters) in diameter. Its burgundy branches are short, rigid and upright.

The tattered-edged, asymmetrical leaves are generally bronze. They are rigid, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is steady-growing, taking 5 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are indigo on the edges and black at the center grows at the top, reappearing once every 6 years. The flower head is shaped like a sphere made up of dozens of widely spaced, narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the hazel flesh is waxy, and the crimson sap is thin.
