Blueberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a very thick, curved trunk covered in cracked, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is dark brown.

The small handful of branches are long and thin and are covered with small amounts of miniature, circular leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid hazel or magenta, with olive edges.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like burning wood.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, oblong fruit. The crispy peach skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is sweet and bitter, and the crunchy cream flesh is bitter and spicy and very juicy. The hazel seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
