Crimson Moss

This pink-red moss is commonly found blanketing small areas On trees, and In bogs.
It is small, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is overwhelmingly rigid.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release millions of spores.
