Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 63 feet (19.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in fine, smooth, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale yellow.

The branches are long and thin and are covered with large amounts of small, long, tapering leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are lilac and florescent blue.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, pink blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like damp.

In early winter it produces tiny, oblong fruit. The rubbery peach skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is very bitter, and the crunchy silver flesh is sweet and oily. The hazel seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
