Burgundy Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In rainy mountain ranges, In heathlands, and In bogs.
It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches, and is slightly rigid; it burns easily in strong sunlight.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release dozens of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.
