Bloodvine

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The very thin stem is yellow, and is covered in brittle slate spines. The very thick, grey trunk can grow to as much as 9 feet (2.7 meters) in diameter. Its green branches trail down across the ground.

The smooth-edged, circular leaves are found in red, blood red and white varieties. They are robust, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is quick growing, taking 11 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with petals that are either pastel purple or gentle yellow, with a yellow center, grow at the top, reappearing after 4 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of several petals in raised layers. It has an overpowering scent that smells like cherry.

The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the black flesh is rubbery, and the indigo sap is thin and can kill if consumed.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
