Indigo Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 60 feet (18.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in knobbly, silver bark, and inside, the flexible wood is brown.

The small handful of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of small, circular leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are lilac on the edges and indigo at the center.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, azure blossoms with V-shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like lavender.

In early winter it produces small, long, curved fruit. The waxy grey skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft brown flesh is sweet and dry. The light brown seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

It can flourish even in standing water.
The sap is edible and extremely sour.
