Bluefruit Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 23 feet (7.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, crooked trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, dark green bark, and inside, the hard wood is light brown.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of large, very thin leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either cyan, or blue with aquamarine streaks.

In early spring, it produces several giant, lilac blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like old shoes.

In mid-autumn it produces small, asymmetrical fruit. The clammy peach skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is spicy and savoury, and the soft blue flesh is sour and very dry. The orange seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
