Crimson Aril

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 30 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous stocky, curved stems covered in fine, cracked, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is dark brown.

The branches are short stubs with thousands of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of large, very thick, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are generally green, delicate and soft.

It produces many tiny, dark brown flowers with oval-shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like a damp log. In early winter it forms smalldeep red aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
