Caramel

This enormous shrub grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for around 86 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of branched, angular stems covered in knobbly, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is yellow.

The branches trail down across the ground that and are covered with small bunches of small, sickle shaped, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are yellow on the edges and caramel at the center, robust and soft.

In early summer it produces large amounts of medium-sized, cream blossoms with long, narrow petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like vanilla.

In midwinter small circular fruits ripen. The crispy slate skin is thick and sweet and bitter, and the soft blue flesh is slightly savoury and syrupy. The yellow seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.
