Crimson Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The fan-like stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in sharp spines. The straight, silver trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the bottom. Its red branches are long and thin and start growing at the base the stem.

The sparse amounts of wavy-edged, needle-like leaves are solid blue with crimson dots. They are flexible, and take some effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 8 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with yellow petals that gradient shift to olive on the outer edge. The central disk is dark grey grow at the top, reappearing once every 5 years. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight dish. It has a faint scent that smells like citrus.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the light brown flesh is soft, and the florescent red sap is thin and causes diarrhea if consumed.
