Copperleaf Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 62 feet (18.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black.

The small bunches of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, very thin leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either green, or washed-out blue with sky blue splotches.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, dark grey blossoms with 2 oblong shaped petals. They are hardy and have a soft scent that smells like faeces.

In early autumn it produces tiny, spherical fruit. The sticky peach skin is tough and inedible, and the soft washed-out blue flesh is sweet and very juicy. The gold seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
