Copperleaf Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very hard wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are very short and thin and are covered with thick bunches of large, slender, pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either caramel, or magenta with slate patches.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, cyan blossoms with flame-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have no scent.

In early winter it produces small, long, tapering fruit. The rough azure skin is thick and inedible, and the soft magenta flesh is salty and very dry. The red seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
