Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a slender, straight trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale brown-grey.
The small handful of branches are very short and slender and are covered with small bunches of huge, thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and blood red.
In early spring, it produces hundreds of large, cream blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like garlic.
In early winter it produces , needle-like fruit. The fuzzy copper skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft hazel flesh is savoury and dry. The florescent yellow seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.
The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
