Emerald Shield Moss

This emerald moss is commonly found blanketing large areas On rotten logs, In heathlands, and In rainy mountain ranges.
It is short, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are exceptionally hardy, and is extremely hardy.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release hundred of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.
