Bloodorange Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 81 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, crooked trunk covered in very thick, wrinkled, brown and grey bark, and inside, the soft wood is white with black speckles.

The abundance of branches are very long and slender and are covered with small bunches of miniature, very thick leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are blood red and pale orange.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, beige blossoms with many layers of petals. They fall easily and have the faintest scent that smells like perfume.

In early autumn it produces small, spherical fruit. The sticky crimson skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy olive flesh is sweet and very juicy. The pale orange seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

The leaves are bland but very healthy.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
