Crimson Spine Violet

This large leaf succulent grows up to 72 feet (21.9 meters) tall. The tapering stem is moss green, and is covered in thick bunches of fine, crimson, hair-like spines. The smooth-edged, slender, pointed leaves are violet and pink. Large amounts of them grow from the base in alternating layers of 3, then 6, then 9, and so on. The leaves are sturdy, and detach easily.

It is slow growing, taking 27 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are green on the edges and olive at the center grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of many petals in raised layers. It has a faint scent that smells like pine needles.

The leaf succulent's skin is thin, the aquamarine flesh is sticky, and the subtle yellow sap is thin.
