Caramel Spine Cactus

This modest-sized cactus grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall. It splits partway up the body to form 6 very narrow, elongated stems. Each stem is yellow-green, and is covered in brittle caramel spines.

It is very slow growing, taking 42 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with petals that are either magenta or cyan, with a yellow center grows at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with 10 raised round-tipped petals. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like citrus.

The cactus's skin is extremely thick, the subtle purple flesh is smooth, and the caramel sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.
