Salty Blueberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, angular trunk covered in thin, knobbly, silver and white bark, and inside, the dense wood is white.

The branches are short and thin and are covered with small bunches of small, sickle shaped leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are solid blue or bronze, with cyan lines.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, florescent blue blossoms with needle-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like sweat.

In early autumn it produces , fan-like fruit. The sticky slate skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy light grey flesh is bitter and salty and dry. The dark grey seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It commonly grows in large patches.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
