Bloodleaf Tree

This small tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 89 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in thin, waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of smooth, large, fan-like leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are generally blood red.

In late summer it forms giant, drab orange, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
