Sagewater Tree
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 69 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a sturdy, crooked trunk covered in delicate, silky, dark green bark, and inside, the soft wood is white.
The small handful of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of small, sickle shaped leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in green, copper and drab yellow varieties.
In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, turquoise blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like a man.
In early winter it produces small, oval fruit. The rough beige skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sweet and spicy, and the soft indigo flesh is salty and sour and dry. The white seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
It has impressive regenerative properties.
