Waterstem Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 77 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, slanted trunk covered in delicate, rough, brown-green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is white.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of huge, asymmetrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are light purple and pale green.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, peach blossoms with circular petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like varnish.

In late summer it produces tiny, oblong fruit. The rough caramel skin is tough and inedible, and the soft yellow flesh is spicy and powdery. The beige seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
