This orange moss is commonly found blanketing giant areas In rainforests, and In moorlands.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps, and is extremely flimsy.
When mature, emerald triangular capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release millions of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

It can absorb up to 16 times its own weight in water.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
The sap is edible and very salty.
