Clinging Conifer

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 24 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a slender, angular trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, dark gray bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy.

The small handful of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with very large amounts of giant, asymmetrical leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are black and sky blue.

In early spring, it produces dozens of large, caramel blossoms with circular petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like varnish.

In mid-summer it produces small, asymmetrical fruit. The smooth violet skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is bitter, and the crunchy azure flesh is savoury and juicy. The white seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
