Clinging Amberfruit

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 23 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, angular trunk covered in fine, cracked, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is burgundy-brown.

The tangled mess of branches are very long and slender and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, needle-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are generally hazel.

In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, amber blossoms with 9 pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like rich perfume.

In early winter it produces tiny, pleated fruit. The hairy cyan skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is sweet and sour, and the soft indigo flesh is spicy and very juicy. The black seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
