Waterwood??

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, curved trunk covered in hard, smooth, dark gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The excessive amount of branches are short stubs and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, 8 pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are green on the sides and indigo at the center.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, brown blossoms with fan-like petals. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like cherry.

In early winter it produces , long, straight fruit. The waxy dark grey skin is peel-able and extremely sour, and the slightly crunchy green flesh is bitter and dry. The hazel seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
