Clinging Violet? (Clinging Violet Fruit Tree)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 32 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in wrinkled, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is brown.

The numerous branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, finger-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are either violet or cream, with gold dots.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, blue blossoms with 7 shield-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In early summer it produces large, triangular fruit. The smooth faded blue skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the crunchy indigo flesh is sweet and syrupy. The black seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
