Burgundy Moorland Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing small areas In moorlands.
It is short, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is overwhelmingly flimsy.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release thousands of spores.
