Waterstem Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in very thick, cracked, brown-green bark, and inside, the soft wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are long and slender and are covered with handfuls of tiny, fan-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in peach, slate and crimson varieties.

In early spring, it produces clusters of tiny, vivid yellow blossoms with asymmetrical petals. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, needle-like fruit. The leathery light red skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft caramel flesh is sour and powdery. The light green seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is slightly resistant to fire damage.
It is suitable for making paper
