Copperfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Evergreen - keeps its leaves all year round)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in thin, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black.

The numerous branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of small, perforated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are copper on the sides and orange at the center.

In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, purple blossoms with wide petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like wet dog.

In late summer it produces small, slender, 5 pointed fruit. The sticky copper skin is thin and bitter, and the soft copper flesh is sweet and dry. The vibrant green seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
