This orange moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In damp forests.
It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps, and is extremely light.
When mature, emerald V-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release dozens of spores.

It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It is suitable for making strong rope
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
