Burgundy Willowberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wonky trunk covered in thick, waxy, burgundy bark, and inside, the very hard wood is silver.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, very thick leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are black on the sides and vibrant green at the center.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with broad, flat petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like a damp log.

In early autumn it produces tiny, long, curved fruit. The fuzzy beige skin is thick and slightly sour, and the crunchy black flesh is sweet and sticky. The white seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.

It can survive a long time without water.
