Crimson Spine Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This small cactus grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall. It splits randomly along the body to form 5 slender, pointed stems. Each stem is light brown or crimson, and is covered in many fine, white, hair-like spines.

It is very fast growing, taking 9 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid faded red petals decorated with dark grey lines and a faded red central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 2 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 29 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight trumpet. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like rainy days.

The cactus's skin is thin, the olive flesh is waxy, and the sky blue sap is thin.

It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It is suitable for making paper
