Ashenfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 55 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in delicate, cracked, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale yellow.

The small bunches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of large, finger-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in violet, brown and florescent orange varieties.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, vivid yellow blossoms with wide petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like ashes.

In late summer it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth blue skin is delicate and inedible, and the crunchy peach flesh is spicy and dry. The cream seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.

It is difficult to cut through.
It actively smothers and kills off other plants.
All parts of the creeper are edible.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
