Copperbloom

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, wavy trunk covered in delicate, smooth, silver bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The small handful of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of small, very thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of emerald that gradient shifts to slate at the top.

In early spring, it produces clusters of medium-sized, copper blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like burning wood.

In mid-summer it produces very large, fan-like fruit. The sticky green skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is bitter and salty, and the crunchy pink flesh is sweet and dry. The slate seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
