Abyssal Lime

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 38 feet (11.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 67 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in waxy, brown-green bark, and inside, the soft wood is white with black speckles.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of giant, long, narrow leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are orange at the bottom and silver with beige lines at the top.

In early spring, it produces many balls of small, ashy purple blossoms with circular petals. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like a damp log.

In late autumn it produces small, fan-like fruit. The clammy lime skin is tough and slightly salty, and the very soft slate flesh is bitter and very juicy. The light grey seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making paper
