Crimson Thorn Pineapple
Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)This small leaf succulent grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The very narrow, elongated stem is red, and is covered in handfuls of flexible subtle red spines. The lumpy leaves are found in bronze and dark brown varieties. Thick bunches of them grow on thick, moss green branches that are very long and slender. The leaves are flimsy, but take little effort to detach.
It is quick growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with solid vivid blue petals decorated with vivid purple lines and a silver central disk grow at the top, reappearing once every 5 years. The flower head is shaped like a cup with 9 tightly layered, narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like pineapple.
The leaf succulent's skin is nearly impenetrable, the lime flesh is rubbery, and the bronze sap is thin.
