Copperbark Spineweed

This enormous shrub grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for around 76 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has many knobbly, straight stems covered in very thick, knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are very short, thin and wispy with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, fan-like, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are hazel at the bottom and pink with bold blue dots at the top, strong and covered in fine hairs.

It produces several tiny, grey flowers with needle-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like bonfire smoke. In mid-summer it forms medium-sizedwhite, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.
