Coniapple

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 68 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in fine, silky, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow.

The abundance of branches are very long and thin and are covered with copious amounts of small, long, tapering leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in peach, orange and lime varieties.

In early spring, it produces many small, caramel blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like fresh linen.

In late summer it produces tiny, finger-like fruit. The smooth orange skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy silver flesh is bitter and savoury and dry. The bronze seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
