Coniferous Citrusfern

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, slanted trunk covered in very thick, waxy, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is mahogany-coloured.

The abundance of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are magenta and magenta.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of small, bold orange blossoms with needle-like petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like misty mornings.

In late summer it produces tiny, pleated fruit. The waxy vibrant yellow skin is thick and slightly savoury, and the slightly crunchy silver flesh is sweet and bitter and syrupy. The hazel seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
