Bloodthorn

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The very thick stem is pink, and is covered in handfuls of flexible blood red spines. It has a angular, wide, crimson trunk atop a wide ball of ridged, exposed roots. The branches are thick and gray-green and are long and slender.

The smooth-edged, 5 pointed leaves are indigo and black. They are flimsy, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are either hazel or vivid orange, with a yellow center grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 4 petals in raised layers. It has an overpowering scent that smells like paint.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the amber flesh is soft, and the cyan sap is thin.

It is suitable for making strong rope
