It is giant, growing up to 1.1 feet (33 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is overwhelmingly delicate; it dislikes being stepped on.
When mature, emerald cylindrical capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release dozens of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.
All parts of the tree are edible.
