Bloodstone Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 34 feet (10.4 meters) tall. The pleated stem is yellow-green, and is covered in thick bunches of rigid white spines. The thick, yellow trunk can grow to as much as 34 feet (10.4 meters) in diameter. Its red branches are short, rigid and upright.

The irregular-edged, thin leaves are olive at the bottom and blue with blood red streaks at the top. They are light, and easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 17 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with green petals and a blood red central disk grow at the top, reappearing after 8 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 22 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight tube. It has a powerful scent that smells like honeysuckle.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the cyan flesh is sticky, and the washed-out purple sap is thin.

All parts of the fruit tree are edible.
