Bloodberry Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 43 feet (13.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 28 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in delicate, smooth, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The small handful of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of miniature, very narrow and elongated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either washed-out red, or blood red with white splotches.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, washed-out red blossoms with spear shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like candle wax.

In early autumn it produces , cuboid fruit. The rubbery turquoise skin is peel-able and savoury, and the soft blood red flesh is sweet and syrupy. The green seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
